Our 80s Story

We met in high school and have been best friends ever since.

Our first conversations back in April 1985 were about the music and movies we loved and loved to lampoon. My80sStore is an extension of the fun conversations we’ve been having ever since, both with each other and with our friends for over 35 years. The book we wrote How To Throw an 80s Party shares our stories and offers legit step-by-step tips on how to make your own 80s event a successful throwback that your friends will be talking about in the high school halls on Monday morning.

As it turns out, our coming-of-age decade has found a new audience—our kids are fans too. Their borrowed nostalgia for the unremembered 80s is on full display in the music they like, they 80s quotes they share, the fashion they love, and the dated technology they enjoy. Jon’s kids—Jake and Calli—are our talented illustrators. They love the mission of this website almost as much as we do.

Meet Our Artists

Jake is a digital illustrator and graphic designer specializing in custom portraits and original, hand-drawn animations. His art features a variety of unique perspectives, eye-catching colors, textures and designs that bring a smile to anyone's face. “I would describe my style as complimenting (or paying homage to) the distinct look and feel of the 80s. My affection for the video games and analog technology of the decade is on full display in everything I create!” Visit Jake on Instagram @jak3n8r

Calli specializes in pen & ink, acrylic paint, and digital communications with a love for all things 80s. “Artists like Depeche Mode, The Cure, Duran Duran, Simple Minds, and Talking Heads were the background music of my childhood. When I hear those classic synth-pop melodies mixed with emotive lyrics it takes me back to those wonderful times. My love for the 80’s and its influence in music and culture will always be a big part of my life!” Visit Calli on Instagram @calliangeline
